The festival began in 2007 with the aim of turning Sapporo into a City of Jazz, and it has grown into one of the largest jazz festivals in the country. Concerts are held over a period of two months featuring both domestic and international artists. At the Sapporo Music Tent in Odori Park—capable of accommodating over 550 spectators—performances are held almost daily for about a month. The Park Jazz Live series held at hotels and public facilities are free. The North JAM Session, featuring top-line Japanese and foreign artists, is held at an open-air stage at TSapporo Art Park, where visitors can lie or sit on the grass as they listen to the swinging sounds.
