Exploring mountain road route 141. In Chitose drive to Lake Shikotsu on route 16, take left onto 276, right on 453, left onto 141. During the winter this winding nearly one lane road is closed. At first it is like a waste land as many trees are uprooted and strewn about as by the hands of giants. You pass by the access road to Mount Tarumae (樽前山) an 'A' rank volcano — most likely to erupt in the relatively near future. (42°41′24″N 141°22′41″). Continue on and pass by the Kuchinashinuma Swamp. Look for the massive metal retaining walls, artificial canyons. Route 141 has many logging roads to explore. Eventually you arrive to Tomakomai.
